“I am Not Confident To Have My Dog OFF The LEad - Will This Be A Problem For The Photoshoot?”
This is a question I get asked A LOT, and you will see I have even included it in my FAQs section on my website!
In this blog, I wanted to go into a bit more detail as to why this won’t be a problem, and 99% of the time, believe it or not, I always conduct my photoshoots with pets with their leads on…read on to find out more…
Why I always photograph dogs with their lead on
Part of my job is pet photographer, but the most important part and top priority for me at all times, is the safety and wellbeing of your dog. When I’m shooting in an outdoors location (and sometimes in the studio too!), it can be very overwhelming for even the most well trained and well behaved pups! Depending on the type of location we’re shooting in, there can be lots of distractions in the form of sounds, other dogs, people, and many other things. I have a few locations which I have shot at time and time again that I always recommend to my clients. These locations could be somewhere your dog has never been before, or you for that matter. I never want to risk the safety of a dog just to get “the perfect shot” - so I always insist on keeping the lead on.
How I get the natural looking shots with the lead on
“But, I want that natural looking shot! How can we do it with the lead on?” — the answer is very simple: you will have them!
After the session, during the retouching part of the process, I digitally remove the lead! And sometimes the collar too! All of the shots displayed below were taken with the dogs lead on, and the same for the horses and their halters!
Hopefully this blog has answered the question of “I am not confident to have my dog off the lead - will that be a problem?”
As you can see from the above examples, it’s not a problem at all, and I always insist on it! The safety of your pet ALWAYS comes first with me, and we will still get those epic shots!
